February is Library Lovers' Month @ Warren County Library

January 19, 2010- February is Library Lovers' Month at the Warren County Library. Library Lovers' Month is a month-long celebration of public, school and private libraries of all types. This is a time for everyone to recognize the important role libraries play in the cultural and economic success of local communities and the nation as a whole. Whether they depend on the library for bestselling books, children's storytimes or access to computers and the Internet, Warren County Library patrons are encouraged to show how much they love their local public library this month.

Be a Friend

Join the Friends of the Warren County Library, a support group of volunteers who provide fundraising and other assistance for the public library. As a member, you will be kept informed of library funding issues.

  • Donate your used books for the Friends book sale.
  • Volunteer to work at the Friends events.
  • Help generate publicity for your library.
  • Give the gift of membership to a friend or relative.

Volunteer

Volunteer your time. Opportunities might include processing new books, presenting an adult program, or helping with craft programs. Other ways to volunteer include:

  • Shelve books and videos.
  • Plan exhibits and displays.
  • Read stories to children.
  • Assist patrons with Internet usage.
  • Mend library materials.
  • Maintain local information or history files.

Promote Your Library

You don't have to be a public relations expert to promote the Warren County Library. You just have to talk about your library. Here are some ways to do it:

  • Attend local government meetings to urge legislators to invest in libraries as a vital community resource.
  • Share your enthusiasm for the library with friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. Encourage others to get involved.
  • Write a letter to the editor of your newspapers describing your positive experiences at the library.
  • Speak up for libraries at community groups that you belong to - the PTA, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Lions Clubs. Invite your librarian to talk about library services and needs.

Contribute

Consider a tax-deductible gift to your public library. Some other ways you can contribute to your library are:

  • Donate your time and expertise to your library.
  • Nominate your library as your community, school or corporate organization's project for the year.
  • Write a check to your library's Friends group.
  • Remember your library in your estate planning.
