Underhill Donates $5000 to the Catherine Dickson Hofman Branch Library

May 12, 2009- The Warren County Library, Catherine Dickson Hofman Branch, recently received a $5,000 donation from an author who appreciated visiting the library as a child. Paco Underhill, who now lives in New York City, often visited the Catherine Dickson Hofman Library, now a branch of the Warren County Library, when staying at his grandmother's farm in Blairstown. Mr. Underhill is the founder and CEO of Envirosell, Inc., a global research and consulting firm that studies the habits of consumers and shows companies the best approach for marketing their products. He is the author of the books Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping; Call of the Mall: The Geography of Shopping; and Why We Buy: Updated and Revised for the Internet, the Global Consumer and Beyond, and is a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.

Speaking on behalf of the Catherine Dickson Hofman Library Trustee Association, Branch Manager Marilyn Grandin said, “ We were all very honored that Mr. Underhill was so generous to our branch.” As yet there are no specific plans for how the money will be spent. That decision will be made by the Board of Trustees.

Warren County Library Director Richard Moore said, “This donation by Mr. Underhill demonstrates his generosity and it shows the impact that libraries can have on people, especially children.” A donation to the library can also be a way to honor the memory of a loved one. The best way to support the library in this manner is by donating to the Friends of the Warren County Library, or to give to the Catherine Dickson Hofman Branch, by making a donation to the Catherine Dickson Hofman Library Trustee Association.

Plans are underway for the county to construct a new library Headquarters to be located in White Township. The new library will be larger and better able to serve the information needs of county residents. Mr. Moore also said that “donations to the Friends of the Warren County Library for the new Headquarters building would certainly be welcomed and, if anyone would like to make a large enough donation, I believe the Freeholders would even be open to offering naming rights to the building.”
